BIO
Balga Gabriella
Gabriella Balga (born Gabriela Balgová), opera singer (lyric-coloratura mezzosoprano), Kammersängerin of the Hungarian State Opera. She attended music school in Nagykürtös, then in Ipolyság. She studied the recorder since she was seven years old, and at the age of 12 she picked up the singing study in the parallel. Her first singing teacher was Michňa Angéla. In her childhood, she often took part in the folk singing competitions with excellent results.
Gabriella Balga debuted at the Hungarian State Opera in September 2012 and remains its soloist since. She is a frequent guest of theatres in Hungary and abroad. Her most acclaimed roles are those in bel canto operas such as Adalgisa, Isabella in Italiana in Algeri or Urbain in Meyerbeer’s Huguenots. She has also broad concert repertoire including the pieces of contemporary composers.
She was a student of Bakonyi Ilona in Vác Conservatory from 2004, and in 2005 she moved to Bartók Béla Conservatory in Budapest, to the class of Fekete Mária. In 2008 she has been admitted to the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, where her teacher became Pászthy Júlia with whom they still work together. She took part in master classes of Walter Moore, Nicholas Clapton, Jevgenyij Nyesztyerenko, Gwynne Geyer, Perencz Béla, Komlósi Ildikó.
